Certificates

Essential oils have a direct impact on our body and well-being – we apply them to our skin, we inhale them directly into our lungs. The quality of the oils we use is of great importance to our health. That is why it is so important to choose products that have the appropriate certificates. These certificates are a guarantee that the oils are truly organic, natural and safe to use, which protects us from harmful substances such as pesticides or
synthetic additives.

What does organic certification mean?

The certificate confirming the organic nature of essential oils is a document issued by an independent certification body, which certifies that a given product meets strict ecological standards. Such products must come from crops that do not use pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or GMOs, and the production process is transparent and controlled at every stage. Only products with official organic certificates, such as FR-BIO-10 from Bureau Veritas or Ecocert, the USDA Organic certificate or the Soil Association, ensure that they meet
rigorous quality standards.

Why are certificates important?

Organic certifications are more than just a stamp on a bottle. They are proof that the product:

  • It is free from pesticides and chemicals – some synthetic chemicals may negatively affect health, and their presence in essential oils may lead to irritation or other adverse reactions.
  • It comes from organic farming – organic farming takes care of the health of the soil, water and air, which is of great importance for sustainable development.
  • It is safe for health – certificates confirm that the oil does not contain artificial additives or diluents that could reduce its therapeutic value.
  • It has higher effectiveness – the purity of organic oils makes their action more concentrated and effective.

The most important certificates confirming the organic nature of essential oils

If your oil has one of the certificates below (or another whose authenticity you can check), you can be sure that you have a truly high-quality product with therapeutic properties in your hands.

  • Bureau Veritas – FR-BIO-10 Bureau Veritas is one of the world’s leading certification bodies, and the FR-BIO-10 certificate guarantees that the product meets European ecological standards. This certificate confirms that the essential oil comes from organic farming and is free from synthetic additives.
  • Ecocert FR-BIO-10 This certificate, also marked as FR-BIO-10 , is one of the most prestigious organic certificates.
  • USDA Organic Certification issued by the United States Department of Agriculture is one of the most recognizable marks in the world. It means that the product comes from organic farming and its production process is free from chemical pesticides, fertilizers and GMOs.
  • Soil Association Organic This certificate, issued by a British organization, confirms that the product meets high ecological standards. Products with this marking are completely natural and come from environmentally friendly crops.

What does the certification process for essential oils look like?

The essential oil certification process is carefully supervised to ensure the highest quality products. It consists of several key steps:

  • Reporting to the certification body: The producer provides detailed information on the crops and production to the selected body, e.g. Bureau Veritas .
  • Crop inspection: Experts check whether the plants come from organic farming, free from pesticides and chemical fertilizers.
  • Production audit: The entire oil production process is audited to ensure that the product is made without synthetic additives and in compliance with ecological standards.
  • Laboratory Testing: Oils are tested to ensure they are pure, free from contaminants, and meet standards.
  • Granting of certification: Once all requirements have been met, the product receives a certificate and the manufacturer is regularly inspected to maintain compliance with standards.

Beware of marketing tricks

Unfortunately, there are many products on the market that advertise themselves as "natural" or "BIO" despite not having any certificates. Such slogans can be misleading for consumers, as they are not regulated by any independent institutions. Without the appropriate certificate, we have no certainty that the product is truly ecological and safe.

Why are certified oils more expensive?

Certified products often cost much more, but this is due to a number of key factors:

  • Rigorous cultivation standards – organic farming requires more labour and raw materials to maintain soil and plant health.
  • Regular inspections – certified oils are regularly audited, which incurs additional costs for manufacturers.
  • Purity and quality – certified oils are free from contaminants and synthetic additives, making them safe and more effective.

Certificates confirming the organic nature of essential oils are not just a formality – they are a guarantee that the product you are buying is pure, natural and safe. By choosing oils with appropriate certificates, you are investing in your health and supporting sustainable agriculture and environmental protection.
